CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS GRANT PROGRAM

The District is pleased to announce it has been awarded $5,201,135.73  through the Capital Improvements Grant Program, as recommended by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP). With the District’s required match, the total investment will be $10,402,271.46 to fund essential water infrastructure improvements. These upgrades, identified in the District’s Water System Master Plan, will significantly improve reliability, efficiency, and long-term service for more than 6,500 water connections throughout Sun Valley.

Key projects include:
Water Meter Replacement: Replacing approximately 6,000 aging meters that have reached the end of their service lifespan to improve accuracy and reduce system loss.

Klondike Tank Re-Coat: The two-million-gallon storage tank will be recoated to protect its structure and extend its life.

New Main Pump Station: Constructing a new pump station essential for delivering water from  the District’s wholesale point to Sun Valley customers.

2nd Avenue PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) & Sun Valley Boulevard Main Replacement: Upgrading PRVs, adding isolation valves, and replacing the main line along Sun Valley Boulevard with a new 6-inch PVC water main to enhance pressure control and reliability.

Boundary Tank to Central Zone PRV: Adding a new PRV facility for improved system redundancy and more efficient water delivery, especially during high-demand summer months.

This major investment will strengthen Sun Valley’s water system for decades to come.

2025 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD WINNER

“Compassion in Action” isn’t just a phrase for Pastor Molech and Tarez Blythe of New Revival Church, it’s the way they serve Sun Valley every day. From uplifting Sunday services to their twice-monthly food pantry, they bring hope and support to residents in need.

They also help organize Willa Mae’s Closet, giving community members access to new clothing for work, school, and daily life, ensuring everyone can participate with confidence and dignity. Their commitment expands beyond these programs, continually creating opportunities that help children, adults, and seniors thrive.

Sun Valley is truly fortunate to be supported by two individuals whose compassion, faith, and dedication shine so brightly. Pastor Molech and Tarez are more than deserving of the Sun Valley Community Service Award for their heartfelt work in uplifting our community.

VETERANS CELEBRATION

The District held its annual Veterans Appreciation Celebration in partnership with Washoe County Human Services on Saturday, November 8, 2025. A free pancake breakfast was served and giveaway bags included information and resources from the District, Reno Veterans Center, VA Sierra Nevada Healthcare System, Veterans Guest House, Adopt-a-Vet Dental Program, and VFW Post 3396. Several veteran agency representatives attended and provided information on their services and programs.

Thank you to all who joined in honoring our veterans for their service to our country.

RADON DETECTION MONTH

The District  has again partnered with University of Nevada, Reno Extension to help bring awareness regarding Radon. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas
released in the ground from the natural decay of uranium. It is the primary cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. Customers can pick up a FREE radon detection kit at the District’s office during the months of January and February while supplies last. For more information on Radon, please contact the University of Nevada, Reno Extension at 775-336-0252 or visit radonnv.com.

WINTERIZING TIPS

Cold weather is coming—don’t forget to prepare your outdoor water systems. A few quick steps now
can help you avoid costly repairs later.

• Shut off and drain outdoor faucets – Turn off the water supply and let the water run out.
• Disconnect garden hoses – Store them indoors to keep them from cracking.
• Cover spigots – Use insulated covers or wrap them to protect against freezing.
• Winterize sprinkler systems – Shut them down and drain the lines.
• Clear gutters and drains – Keep water flowing away from your home to prevent ice buildup.

Taking these steps will help keep our homes and neighborhood safe and ready for winter!
